I would not pick Turkey or PRC or any other totalitarian country, but that has nothing to do with current events, just safety. I want my kid to return safe and sound.

Democracies like France, Germany, Sweden, UK, Ireland, Australia, or Canada would all be fine.

Why stay away from Turkey? Just because of the recent conflict in the Middle East or do you generally think it's unsafe?

I ask that because I'm Turkish and think Istanbul (where most study abroad programs are in Turkey) is 100% safe, but I would avoid it during these uncertain times.


DO. I would avoid it while it de facto is a totalitarian country. Pre-Erdogan, maybe 20-25years ago, probably I would give a different answer.

My son went last Fall and he’s going back to Germany this summer for another school opportunity.

I will continue to monitor.
