| Considering current events, are parents/students re-considering studying abroad? |
|
no, but they're going to Europe not the Middle East.
safer than the US |
what if they were set to go to turkey |
Your kid is already losing his hair in college? |
| Turkey- that's a tough one. My DH is a political science prof, middle east politics specifically. If this were our kid, he'd try to convince them to study in Europe (although Istanbul is technically in Europe, of course) just to ease our minds a bit. Our kid studied in France last year, and it was an amazing experience- I'd definitely allow my child to do study abroad this year, but I'd do lots of research into where they'll study and stay. |
turkey isn't more or less dangerous than it was a week ago. but Turkey has been unstable for 5 years now, so this isn't new |
| How about greece? |
Um, didn't Lindsey Graham just say Turkey is next? |
| I would send my spoiled kid to NYU Tel Aviv or NYU Accra to show them what the real world is like. Or maybe to Northeastern when they open a sattelite campus in one of the "-stan's." |
| Maybe Australia or New Zealand |

No guys - anyone watching what’s happening? The market is down in futures trading by over 1000 points. Japan, the circuit breakers went off. Korea, the circuit breakers went off. The massive attack this weekend on the oil depot is in Tehran?
This week will mark the largest escalation. Turkey just sent their jets to Cyprus. They will be involved. I would not go anywhere in the eastern Mediterranean. Maybe Copenhagen? Wait to see over the next 10 days ? |
| Will France be safe? Thinking about the recent shooting in Austin, TX as well as previous extremist violence in Paris. |
|
Your kids will be fine in Western Europe and much of Eastern Europe. I’d stay away from Turkey. Other than that, I wouldn’t be too concerned.

Why stay away from Turkey? Just because of the recent conflict in the Middle East or do you generally think it's unsafe? I ask that because I'm Turkish and think Istanbul (where most study abroad programs are in Turkey) is 100% safe, but I would avoid it during these uncertain times. |
What about risk within the US? Worth to keep kids within driving distance from home, and out of the large cities? |
