Sorry: to clarify it was my kid’s teacher who said this and she said it as if this was standard across MCPS.

That’s what I’m trying to see if it’s true or not.

Winter MAP is not required for MS, but some still do it. Ours requires MAP-M and MAP-R for grades 6-8.

Is there a stated reason for this? Or is MCPS just fudging the numbers by picking and choosing which schools test?

Thank you. So teacher was correct, although as you point out, it appears to be a school-based decision.

Not rare I think. DC was at 220s at 1st grade and a few kids in the school around that score as well.

CES is only map-r. They’ll be considered for compacted math though starting in 4th. I suggest getting your kid into Russian Math or one of the other accelerators

I don't think central office is choosing the schools. At our schools, they say they use the results for instruction. Personally I don't think it's worth the lost instruction time.

What do you mean "the numbers"? MAP is for internal use, as far as I know it doesn't get reported out anywhere. My guess is that central office just doesn't need it for their own purposes so leaves it up to the schools to decide if they care about it or not.
