Do not get the hype over “ Theo of Golden”

I listened to it on audio. I, too, am very happy for the author, who seems like a lovely person. But it is soooo hokey. The religious symbolism was so heavy-handed. A lighter touch and a good edit would have helped.

I am half way through Theo the Golden and at first was thinking this could be a five star. I’m half way and can’t wait for it to end as it is going no where and I can already predict the ending. I will finish it as it’s for book club.

Are you in my old book group? I quit after realizing that everyone looooved The Women. They are now reading Theo.

This is me too. At least it's not as long as The Women? I am audibly groaning with every saccharine sweet new interaction full of stereotypes about "others". The same way I groaned while old dead lovers kept popping back up in The Women.

I feel like I would have loved this book in middle school when I was an avid church youth group attendee from a rich white neighborhood.

Please write a novel about this! I'm fascinated by the stories of Young Life that I hear from people in my "liberal" Episcopal church who want our youth program to fill that role in their kids' lives.

Mine gave an F to North Woods. And thumbs up to a book a member wrote that was awful. If I didn’t love these women I’d be done.

No, I’m not in your old book club lol! But mine also gave an F to North Woods (which for the record was my pick). I wish this wasn’t an anonymous thread, as I feel the readers here would make an awesome book club full of Kristin Hannah haters.

I hated it. The first few chapters were ok but then it moved so slowly and was so unrealistic.
