I suspect they are keeping school and police tax perhaps?

This will simply worsen the divide in Florida. Neighborhood with affluent homeowners will find a way to pay for their roads if they need to ..... While in the poorer neighborhood they will likely a big influx of undesirable, polluting and health destroying businesses to try to bring revenues somehow.

But you still cant get insurance right?

So no income tax, no property tax, lowish sales tax. How do they propose to fund schools and fix the infrastructure?

The article clearly says the repeal wouldn’t touch school property taxes.

Do you people not read anything?

The low level of intelligence on this thread is disturbing. Blanket stereotypes of people who live in Florida based on dense thinking, misreading the info and closed mindedness. I've lived in both the DC area for many years and also Florida and you should hear how they talk about the idiots who choose to live near DC!

This makes no sense. Florida does not have income taxes and property taxes account for 30% of local tax revenue in Florida. Even if they only exempt homestead properties, there are counties that could lose up to 20% of their tax revenue overnight. This policy also risks the credit rating of local governments and could drive up the cost of financing for local government projects. I'm doubtful that this measure will pass because notoriously red North Dakota voted down a constitutional amendment to repeal property taxes by a 27 point margin recently.

Yep. See my post at 17:55.

I think the post at 18:12 says it clearly and thus was the first to point this out.

Floridian here. Property tax revenues have jumped significantly (think, almost doubled) in the past few years as property values increased due to the influx of people moving here during and after COVID. The local governments here do not need that much money. It’s obscene how much they are wasting just because they have it. And yes, the proposal would only apply to homestead properties, not vacation homes or commercial properties, so there would still be enough money coming in. They just can’t set it on fire the way they’re been doing lately.

No state property tax you still pay your local property tax. They call it school and police tax.

You might want to check how much insurance is on a house though.

Listen, they’re getting their money someway.
