Title of this thread is misleading.

From the article:
The chances of Floridians actually voting on the amendment are long, however. The Florida Senate has yet to propose any bill during this legislative session addressing property taxes. Joint resolutions can only be placed on the ballot if they are approved by a three-fifths majority in both the House and Senate. It does not need the approval of the governor.

Republican Sen. Ed Hooper, the chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said Wednesday night that his chamber will introduce its own measure, although “it won’t be as generous.”

Is this because land isnt that valuable there anymore with the flooding and hurricanes?

Each county/city will add their own sales tax...but it's unclear how high that needs to be to replace property tax.

It's basically all the old people who are owners and don't buy much wanting to shift the burden onto renters/young people.

You think Florida can just vote to remove insurance costs? How would that work exactly?

I think they actually don't. All those selfish retirees in places like The Villages getting intoxicated on cheap daiquiris or margaritas and dancing around to Jimmy Buffet cover bands while the world burns down around them.

Yep. They contribute little to the local economy but want to reap all the benefits.
