+1. Lots of people don't do well in large corporations but only a type makes it their identity.

Also, I think people who start consulting firms are less likely to have partners/kids or the kind of community involvement that requires a steady income and steady schedule. People are risk averse when they have something to lose.

It usually comes down to choosing the wrong socioeconomic class and income of your parents.
