Oahu best place I have ever visited

OP, tell us what you loved! We are going later this summer and can’t wait.

Quick tip for folks. On your way spend 2 days in San Diego. It will help with the jet lag and you wont loose extra days to recover from jet lag.

Any hotel recs there with kids? DH and I went years ago when we were first married but priorities would be different now!

We were at a lovely apartment close to the beach and I was also doing the shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry there but I did not mind it at all.

We did so much of exploring, shopping (even went island hopping and also shopped at Costco and the weekly markets), eating so much fresh produce (strawberry papaya), trekking, beach, fishing, water sports, historical places, birdwatching, fish watching, plant watching...

Oahu is perfect. People are perfect. History is amazing (if somewhat heartbreaking), lots to see, lots to experience, amazing food, amazing culture.

Native here. Glad you enjoyed Oahu. I feel the same way!

I like Maui much better but to each his own

We went to Maui and Kauai, but many of the most picturesque photos I see are from Oahu.

I know I am comparing apples and oranges but Oahu had everything I was looking for namely landscape, beach and hiking all in one place.

I will certainly go back.

None of those places have that roe of bougie stores like thru have on Waikiki Beach, right,?

I think Oahu is best for scenery if that's your thing.

Its an unbelievably gorgeous place with plenty to see and soak in.

The bad news though its having more and more homeless people and you see them all over Waikiki beach.

Each island has its strengths and I'd encourage you to expand to visit another along with Oahu during your next trip, OP. I'd never seen a green so intense until I visited Kauai in spring. On Maui, I'd never experienced anything like the summit of Haleakala...I was literally above clouds! And along with some great snorkeling on the west coast of the Big Island, I hiked to see lava literally right in front of my feet. It was crazy. And while the food everywhere is amazing...the next time you're on Oahu, visit Leonard's for some fresh warm malasadas. They're like donuts, only 1000 times better. HEAVEN.

I love Hawaii, and there’s good shopping deals too.

I am single guy and I have never been. My job is flexible.

When would be the least busy time to visit Oahu? And as a solo traveler, do you think other islands would be better? If so, which one?

I went solo. I went the week before the pro bowl. Not sure if they still host that but as a single i sure wished I picked the pro bowl week.

I did go to see Pearl Harbor and to see the beach that Elvis always used to go to. Also went to north shore on Oahu to see black sand beaches and that was awesome

I too could retire there

Do not judge Oahu by this!! Hilton Hawaiian Village is probably the worst place on the whole island.
