I agree with this approach. I'd look for a floral midi dress in pinks, greens, or blues, because those are my colors. I'd gravitate towards a-line, or even a full skirt, because a skirt with "swish" always makes me feel good.

OP, what colors and styles do you feel best in? Maybe we can make suggestions. Sounds like you might prefer a mini or knee length style? What colors do you gravitate towards? What dress shapes? Also when are you getting married, so we can make weather appropriate suggestions?

OP here - I like a fuller midi skirt, I think it's most flattering when it hits me a few inches above the ankle. I love bright colors. The dynamic in our relationship is sort of traditional; he really brings out my feminine side and I want to reflect that in what I wear that day. (He always makes me feel beautiful and sexy, but he's actually never seen me dressed up, or even wearing anything nicer than yoga pants or jeans and sneakers.) We don't have a date yet but probably sometime in April. It may be just the two of us, or possibly joined by a couple of friends /witnesses.

OP again, I feel like I never end up looking like myself when I let somebody else do my hair (I'm a curly girl) or makeup, so I may handle those on my own. But I might get my nails done! I think it's been about 30 years since my last manicure.

Also wanted to mention that around the same time I have a family event out of town, fancy but daytime, so I'm hoping this dress or outfit can do double duty.

I have seen everything from full wedding dresses to jeans for the courthouse weddings. They were all perfect. I would probably do a cocktail dress or a great dress I would wear to be a guest at a wedding.

Look at the Staud Wells dress - it comes in many colors and patterns. Wear it with a pretty sheer wrap and wedges for your wedding, and a little cardigan and flats for your daytime family event.

I hear you on wanting to do your own hair. Maybe snag a fresh flower from your bouquet and bobby pin it behind an ear.

A cream or white tea length wedding dress. Google those exact words and you’ll see lots of options.

This is your wedding. Don’t you want nice pictures? Nobody cares if you were married before; you can still wear white. This isn’t the 1950s.
