I'll start - Federal refund of $7k - last year federal refund was like $400 and we did not change any withholdings

It sounds like you benefited from the increase in the SALT deduction cap.

The K-shaped economy at work.

So did all the Late Night talkshow hosts who make it a point to blast this admin.

Yet none are donating their extra refund to anything they support. They support in word only not their check book.

The point isn't to make voluntary payments. Your argument, "well, you could always just pay more yourself" is stupid. But you know that, because you've been stupid all your life.

The point is compel everyone at that income level to pay more. We need confiscatory level taxes for billionaires, especially. And probably a mark-to-market regime to capture capital gains on an annual basis.

This is the giant caveat this tax season - the SALT deduction cap was passed very late in the year so like i said in the 300-500k post, those people will get more back. It's not like you could know that would be passed late in the year unless you're on the insider trading like all the polymarket people.

Also the Supersized 401k catch up amount that was pretax in 2025 for 60-63 with SALT on top was a big blessing.

7k refund, however I paid estimated taxes expecting to make a large taxable event, but ultimately did not do so. So it was more or less expected.
