First time I saw the price difference on milk I thought Giant made mistake because you have to be close in price with your competition for basic items.
That’s why I am not mentioning the price difference in a 3 bag Fuji apple or tangerine.

Honest question - are you all saying that Giant is exceptionally expensive, or that Wegmans has exceptionally good prices? I don’t live especially close to a Wegmans, but I could switch to Harris Teeter or Safeway if Giant is expensive by comparison.

Giant is exceptionally expensive.

Giant does this on purpose, thinking you will stop in for milk, butter, eggs and make impulse purchases on the way out. That’s why those products are located in the back of the store … forcing you to walk through aisles and see other stuff you don’t need but throw it in the cart.

My point is as a supermarket you have to keep your prices very close with your direct competitor specially on basis items like milk, bread and eggs.
Wegmans is not cheaper on everything like their prepaid food is more expensive but the quality is much better.

That works if they are cheaper but they are not.

In addition I am tired of the price I see at the vegetable section suddenly moving up in price at the register.
I saw $1.79 per pound for tomatoes and when I self checkout it said $3.99 per pound.
Complaining is not working at the store level to the manager.

Call corporate and while you're at it tell them their dumpster produce is highly overprice as well as non of their crap rings up right!

Yeah,
I don’t trust the prices on the shelf anymore until I see my receipt after paying at the register.

Target is pretty bad with this. I complained to customer service who said to take picture of the items while shopping. I don’t have time for that.

+1 Target can be terrible if the lazy workers don't update the tags. I did take a picture of a target deal (like buy 3 and get $5 coupon) and they said "oh those are from last week" like I'm the stupid one.

Giant is the absolute worst. I avoid it all costs. There are some unsavory workers and shoppers there. I don’t feel safe there (or at Walmart).

Giant has always been terrible. I switched to Wegmans as soon as their Germantown store opened and never looked back.

The answer is right in front of you. Shop at Wegman's if their goods < Giant prices.

+1 same. The online price, the store shelf price and the register price are 3 different prices. I no longer shop there. Haven't stepped into a target in about 8 or 9 years.

It's to bring you into the store to buy their tasty bakery items.

I do most of my shopping at Whole Foods but do go into the local Giant once in a while when picking up something quickly. I always make a note of the prices and for like for like items, Giant is absolutely not cheaper than Whole Foods.

I agree with that, but the only item cited had been a specific one- Maola milk- not even all milks much less other items. I want to understand if posters are saying many food items are overpriced at Giant, or are we talking one specific milk item that I personally don’t buy anyway.

This is basic shopping psychology that most modern grocery stores employ.
