Lamborghini Urus all over college campuses

Look at r/yale today for a post.

All international /non-US born students own these cars (according to my DC, these kids tell their parents they need a car and then get a 250k budget for a car).

So how is this normal? Why don’t T50 admissions offices educate their wealthy non-US donors and tell them this is a sure fire way to stand out (in a bad way)?

Cars don’t have to cost 400k…

The wealthy international full pay donors might be subsidizing your merit scholarship, FA or dorm reno.

The r/Yale post says the Urus has a US Army Veteran themed license plate. That is an interesting detail. Hard to figure out what kind of foreigner might have that/find that a wise thing to put on their car.

When an urus kid meets and urus kid, there's a connection, so it's not always a bad way to stand out.

Like everything, you can lease an exotic car like this for considerably less than the cost to purchase, and give everyone the impression that you're swimming in money when in fact you're living on the financial edge. Don't confuse luxury goods with true wealth.

“All over”? I don’t believe you.

Tale as old as time...

Except now the veil is lifted a bit.
We now know that these rich kids won't fade into the background of daddy's business or a life of leisure. They get to be the international power set who pull the strings of our lives and are above the law.

There has always been EuroTrash at US colleges. In the 90s, Vanity Fair had an article about the foreign student scene at Brown.

At my first job out of college I befriended a Greek girl who had gone to Georgetown and she described her life as a college student which included living in a luxury apartment building and going out to expensive clubs and bars and I was blown away.
In the 1950s my dad was at Yale and friends with the son of the Australian ambassador. My dad still laughs at this kid’s posh lifestyle, not to mention his penchant for testing the limits of diplomatic immunity.

None of your business. Envious clearly. Get back to your job and kids.

There will always be people with more money than you. Who cares.

Those rich kids pay international tuition rates too. Your kid will be fine. Even if there were no rich international kids, they still wouldn’t lower your kid’s tuition.

You sound racist.

And why don’t you spend more time teaching your child not to read into status symbols or brands. Or teach them to find those kids and have them pay the bill on a night out. Either way.

Disgusting, flexing with a $400k car.

Can’t they just flex in a normal way with just a $400k bachelors degree?

MY wealth signals are virtuous and tasteful, YOURS are vulgar and inappropriate.

I went to college in the 90s with several kids who had Range Rovers, Ferraris and a guy with his own plane (separate from his parents’ plane). They were all multi-generation Americans. I don’t feel harmed from being exposed to these kids and their cars/planes.

It’s no different from life now when I look around and see families with multiple homes, planes and nicer cars. There are a lot of people richer than I am, but even substantially more who are poorer. What others have and don’t have doesn’t impact my daily life
