Subscription auto-renewals

This is OP, and I’ve been going back and forth with Conde Nast for 3 days and they refuse to budge. At this point all I can do is warn new subscribers that the renewal is $80 if you sign up and forget like me.

Mark your calendar to not renew it next year. Also, if I auto-subscribe, I make sure there is an option where I am notified in advance of a renewal. That’s helped me.

This is why I love a good cc scam event. Clears these all out!

Not worth it. If some bad actor gets ahold of your check, they have all the info they need (your routing number & your account number) to attempt a fraudulent ACH withdrawal. Happened to an elderly relative. Had to close down checking account, stop all normal debits (e.g., pepco, condo fees), and set up a new one. Big pita.

Just search in your emails and then decide what to keep/not or keep a spreadsheet like PP mentioned. No need to get another subscription to get rid of existing ones.

I don’t auto renew anything. These companies bank on you forgetting to cancel.

I cancel subscriptions right away after getting them so I am only charged for a month. It's especially great for "free trial period" stuff. Libby online likely has Bon Appetit through your library.

I’ve become rather wealthy from people like you who have so many subscriptions on auto-pay they can’t keep track of them. Easiest $ I’ve ever made.

I know I had a digital subscription to NY Times that cost "$50 per year" (for the first year.). Then they hiked it to $23 "every 4 weeks," i.e. $276 year. I didn't notice for, like, three years oe near to it. I know, insane and lame and my own fault, but classic "enshittification" corporate behavior: win a customer over, they pay what you ask and everything's hunky dory, then f**k them over first chance you get and quintuple the price. I canceled it, of course, finally.

Did anyone notice that LinkedIn's Premium subscription is $75 per month?!

We don't give credit cards for subscriptions. They send a paper renewal by USPS mail. We either cancel or pay with a paper check by USPS mail.

Sometimes the old ways are best.
