| I love how we travel now - its all about walking and exploring and meeting people vs. an action packed day full of "experiences" and activities when we travelled with our kids. Yes, we will rent bikes, but go out by ourselves- the internet or chat GPT is the most amazing resource for off the beaten track places to avoid the crowds. Yes we will go to a vineyard but skip the tour and the VIP tasting or whatever. We wander - it's so romantic and we are older - in our 50s - but still fit and able to do many active things. It's amazing how many people you meet and talk to when you are not with kids or a big group, and that has become the beauty of travel. It's amazing how liberating it is to not have reservations or a strict agenda for every moment. We stay at properties with pretty sunsets and just enjoy a snack and sunset at home many nights. The best! |
Doesn’t sound like you enjoy traveling. Maybe just stay home. |
Love this! Be this person, not OP. |
DP what's sad about that? Our family is similar. I don't want to just sit around doing nothing. I want to go explore and see stuff. Beaches suck if you are fair skinned and get burned instantly (or even if you aren't and worried about skin cancer as you should be). There's more than one way to have fun. |
Yes, just sitting on a beach can be boring. Have you tried swimming, beach volleyball, sea kayaking, surfing or body boarding, fishing, snorkeling…etc? |
Fun! I like it. |
Same! One day is enough So boring |
NP - I'm good in the sun lathered up with sunscreen for about 30 minutes. Then I burn. My options are to sit under an umbrella in the shade and nap or read a book (which I can do at home!) or pick a different kind of vacation. I have been on many, many wonderful adventures to non beach locations. I only choose beach locations in the off season when I can walk it on a cloudy day in long pants and sleeves and admire its beauty with my dog running beside me because there is no one else for miles. |
Beaches are depressing?! |
I live in a constant state of chaos living in a city. I'm at this point too. Last 5 vacations or more where beaches. |
| Guided tours. |
Also agree. Beach vacations are so boring. |
Same and I also don't buy gifts for others either. I am going to visit some European Christmas markets this year so I might make an exception. |
| We dont bother going inside of most castles, churches, temples, even lighthouses. The view OF the building is better than looking around inside of it. Once you've seen one, say, lighthouse, you've seen them all. |
| Anything with a boat. Boat tours, whale watching, kayaking, etc. They’re so dependent on the weather and then if you do make it on the boat, it somehow takes up a large chunk of your day and it turns out I just do not care about whatever can be done on a boat bad enough to plan a boat excursion anymore. |
