Ask friends who have older kids, local listserves, or school listserves. I prefor recommendations from someone I know.

Can anyone post their reccs here please? I will compile a list and post (I have a few names from historical posts). Breakdown will be btw full service counselor, senior year counselor and essay editing.

Ours was $5500 for Junior and Senior Year. She was excellent and really got along well with my kid, which was the most important to me honestly. Her rate is the same Senior Year, so we chose to engage her both years.

Helped with School/Application List, Common App, Essays (Common App and Supplementals), Essay Submissions, Scholarships and anything in-between.

Listened to a few select podcasts, agreed a family to allow an authentic pursuit of interests. Worked closely with our child’s freshman/sophomore advisor at private, and then the college counseling staff for junior/senior years.


Outstanding results. I seriously think this whole consultant field is a predatory scam playing on parental panic.

I would LOVE this. I find that people I know tend to gatekeep this information so maybe they will be more forthcoming anonymously on this forum. I am aware of the professional organizations for counselors that list names but it’s so many to sort through and I would prefer a personal recommendation (even if it’s anonymously on this forum).

Ours was $8500, starting at end of sophomore year. Consultant is local to dc. I am gate keeping because she only takes a limited number of kids and word of mouth is sufficient to fill her roster. I have never seen her name mentioned here.

is that 8500 for junior and senior year then?
does it include EC development, essay editing for 10+ reach schools and personal statement edits?

All inclusive, my kid prepared over 20 apps (lots of reaches) but didn’t file most because early in. Every supplemental was reviewed however.

I should add that prices have likely gone up since we signed up when kid was a sophomore.
