For the DMV area, what is the average cost (all-in) for a college counselor that’s a one-stop shop for extracurricular development, application help, college list making and essay editing? What is the price breakdown for using someone just senior year vs all 4 years of high school?
I know it can vary but I’m curious to know a ball park. |

Whoa. All of this? I mean people pay 15-20k just for the essays for 10 reach schools in senior year. I'd say 35-40k for senior year. But, at that point it's too late for EC development. EC development - pay hourly starting in 9 (but you can honestly do it yourself)? They will try and get you to sign a hefty package early and that's never good. |

Too much variance — the ballpark is huge. There are elite firms that will cost tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars, to places that are $50/hour. À la carte services for a couple hundred or a couple thousand a pop. A package for a few thousand.
You’d do better to set a budget and then research the best providers within that budget. |

| Senior just essay help will be around 15K for about 13-15 universities - this is for brainstoring for essays, essay reviews and edits. Essay writing will have to be done by the student. That is what we paid for our current senior. |

| I would use Application Nation with Sara Harberson. She is excellent and gives you the tools to do as much or as little as you want yourself. Or à la Carte add on $$ as needed. Excellent outcomes. |

I agree. It was very helpful to me as a parent going through it for the first time. She takes you step by step through each process from about January of junior year through the application season. I didn't follow all of her advice. You would have to discern what's important or not with any counselor. DC admitted to top choice in the early round. I didn't do any add-ons so it cost $89 a month for about 11-12 months. |

| Ours charges $1300 for two meetings (4 hours of service), which is all he recommends for 9th and 10th grade. After that, it’s hourly. $325/hr. |

| we paid around $4,000 for help with essays for 10 schools and to keep our DC on target with deadlines. This is a local counselor who lives near us and they would meet in person. My DC's school college counselor was awful, just not involved, unresponsive, terrible advise (NOVA private). We already knew what schools were on our list, I just needed help with DC because the dynamic between us and them was not helpful and too much fighting among us. So we used the local private counselor and it worked very well for us. |
