New Balance AA or American Select?

The AA vs AS debate is complicated. Experience differs on the region, the grad year, and when the tryouts took place.

I gotta be honest, I hate how AA does the “callback” at tryouts. Is there anything worse than having a teen girl get dismissed during the tryout?

And having been to several, my kids never had been dismissed but the talent that does get dismissed is crazy.

It’s just like my days on Broadway. Honey, you’re not what we’re looking for today.

Agreed but to be fair AS did the same thing when my daughter played for the MD team.

They are trying out for an all star team. If they can't handle being cut, they should not be trying out. This is from a parent that had DD not make team.

Not sure it’s a matter of “handling” it. Again, my kid made the cut, I just don’t see need to have everyone wait for 20 min then be told who gets to play another hour all while publicly shaming kids who are dismissed. Put the cut kids on a field and have them scrimmage each other.

But that’s just me.

Is the other way better? Coaches tell everyone they did great. Wait around for a few days and never hear back. You sit there and wonder if email went to spam folder or get sent to wrong address.

Yes better because this happens either way, without the public walk of shame.

And there seem to more politics and back room deals with AS. My kid has done both, AS made some terrible roster mistakes with cuts and roster assignments. With AA, there were only a few head scratchers, but they got it mostly right. Do AA if you can, but AS is still a great experience if your kid gets on.

i don't see coaches names for the DC area, are they listed elsewhere?

Names are on the website.

I see "TBD" for the DC/VA coaches.

If you can’t find the names here under 2026 Burn Coaches then you cannot be helped:
