| If they live there full-time, and you are only there intermittently, they have you over a barrel. |

I have 10 acres in rural VA. The animals that poop on my property daily include: deer, rabbits, birds, wild turkeys, coyotes, foxes, squirrels, groundhogs, voles, and random barn cats belonging to my neighbors.
You have 41 acres and are worked up about a little dog poop? I mean, sure. Die on that hill. |
The OP might go all 2nd Amendment and cause the dog to die on that hill. |
You will kill their dog for pooping? Wow, ok. |
| Tell them that you don’t want their dog on your property in a kind but firm way. |
I had this same thought. We live on a golf course in a non-rural area and we get all sorts of poop. Deer, skunk, fox and who knows what else. For a property that isn't lived in full-time and kids aren't out playing in the fields after school, I would let it go. Though if it will make you feel better, make the cameras visible and put up clean up after your dog signs. |
OP, you are getting unbalanced by this. To even say you'd shoot the dog for pooping on your 41 acre place that you don't even live in full time is extreme. |
| Op or someone in their household is more likely to get shot by their gun than the dog. If you are so worked up, its best to send them a letter and leave out the shooting threat so you don't have all your neighbors against you |
| On the positive side the dog will be protecting your property when you are not around. |
No, he does NOT need a $$$ fence. The bad neighbors with the dog need to buy a fence. |
Over the barrel on some dog shit? LOL. |

You can’t shoot a dog just for being on your property even in Virginia.
Tell them you’ve noticed them on your property and you just wanted to let them know where the boundary is in case they werent sure. A loose dog in the country is not worth worrying about. |
Good point, but it depends where the dog is going. If he's going right up to the house lawn and pooping there among the curated plantings, it's not OK. If he's pooping in the bushes in a corner of the property that no one uses, eh. |
| Um, does Virginia's stand your ground statute apply to dog invaders? Asking for a friend. |
Correct. One person's laziness and entitlement does not become another person's 5 figure obligation. For all of you clutching pearls over a dog getting shot. Tell me you don't know diddily about rural life without telling me you don't know diddily. Real country people- not some K lobbyist retirees playing homesteader in rich as hell Rappahannock- will shoot dogs all day long because they harass, harm and kill valuable items like chickens, game birds, crops, cows etc. Like, theyd expect their dog to get shot so they contain them before it happens. Or at least the decent people do. |
