Honestly, I am shocked that MCPS looks the other way while coaches use the players without pay to rake in thousands of dollars for Summer Camp that goes directly to coaches.

The summer camp issue was that Mark Karver ran the summer camp under a name BCC basketball for years. The B- CC coaches (Tracy & Ryan) worked the camps and they wanted to cur Mark out and get the gym reserved before Mark could and the AD at the time was trying to convince other people (school organizations) to book it before the camps could and Ryan and Tracy would then run the camp. The other organizations said no and the AD was replaced the next year.

This is totally false. The athletic director at BCC is the same guy who's been there for years. Mark Karver attacked the varsity coaches as abusive so he could become the varsity coach himself. That's what it seemed like. And he got fired too. I agree the summer camp was a shake down. Free labor.

Any update as to how MCPS allows this? Coaches "encourage" kids to work the camp for free or SSL (which is likely not allowed because a lot of the camps are not set up as NFP), coaches make thousands and the kids get nothing but preference for a spot on the team?! The coaches say it is "community building"......

It is unethical to allow coaches to run these camps for personal profit. The old BCC baseball coach also pushed the players to do this for free.
