Anyone from Central Office (or with intel) know why "schools closed/offices open" has disappeared?

It seems they have changed their policy on this — which is what everybody on here was complaining about — so calm down and take the win.

I am taking the win and am relieved and calm and also curious and asking questions.

It must feel good to know your vacation caused other people to lose income. That feeling of power over other people.

Even my 80+ yr old patients are making it in for routine exams in Rockville

Taylor is apparently *really* committed to making sure Central Office staff get as many paid snow days off as possible. Not even a hint of teleworking in any of these messages despite the fact that tons of them can easily do it

What did you think your tax dollars were for? To pay people to WORK? lol

Quite the opposite. I've gotten auto responses from CO staff explicitly saying they're not working. e.g.,

Due to the inclement weather, MCPS schools and offices will be closed on Wed., Jan. 28 and Thu., Jan. 29. I will address inquiries when I return to the office.

I doubt everyone made it in.

My spouse didn't have any cancelled patients the last two days. A couple cancelled on Tuesday, but even then, the vast majority came in.

I've only heard this third hand so I can't vouch for its accuracy, but if true reportedly a central office staffer had a bad fall on ice a couple years back when offices were open (but schools closed) and threatened to sue.

Lucky them. We had our appointments canceled which was fine as we couldn’t get out easily.

They can work from home.

Their lives might depend on medical evaluation today. I am a healthy 40 year old. I'm staying put.

If there is a new policy why don't they tell everyone instead of making everyone scramble the morning of when they decide high schools are safe but child care can't possibly open?

I have serious health issues. I’m not risking driving in bad weather.

Libraries provide a place for people whose power is out or who are unhoused to get warm. They should be an early priority in an event like this.

On Tuesday there were a lot of people who were snowed in. On Wednesday some were still snowed in. By Thursday most people had their streets plowed (which may have blocked their driveways again but folks can clear that). Those that could not go to work due to snow or lack of childcare used their leave or lost income. But society didn't stop, something you benefited from.
