| The union is in kahoots with the admin. You think I am the only teacher that was fired when the kids go nuts and admin wants false reports. My union rep just rolled over when they cut new teachers who didn't understand why their was so much anger and violence in mcps. They just wanted false reporting. Nothin to see here type stuff, as students were getting hurt and teachers threatened. |
Ok, well good luck to you then. I think you’re focusing on the wrong thing with this 50% issue for your own child. Seems like safety is your real concern, and testing policies are unrelated. |
| If kids are not safe and fear for their safety do you think they are affective learners. When the teachers are afraid of getting maimed or murdered in the classroom are they affective at teaching. These are pertenant questions we have to deal with as we slide away from traditional values and toward third world infrastructuree. |
I care because I think that school should be teaching kids the material that they need to learn to be successful adults and giving then a 50% on work that they are not doing is not teaching them anything. I care because I am tired of seeing kids who are failing passed on the the next grade so that we can meet graduation rate requirements. we care more about the statistics then actually teaching kids. I care because we are not providing our kids, and there by society as a whole, a basic education that should help them succeed in society. It is a crappy policy that hurts kids, hurts society, and inflates statistics to make people feel better. |
You think that whether kids are loud and obnoxious is related to the grading scale? I am not following you at all. I'm curious if you object to AP's and IB's, both of which are graded on a scale where the difference between nothing and the lowest grade is the same as the difference between each two subsequent grades, something that mathematically is the same as the 50% rule. Do you find that kids in AP and IB classes are particularly loud and obnoxious? |
| I don't know. We should do a tiktok where you read an complex scientific essay or work on calculus problems and I can sit 5 feet away from you and pelt you with rocks. After 20 minutes we can see how many question out of 10 you get right. I am guessing you will get 3/10 but we will bump you up to a 6.5 out of 10 because you attempted it and you didn't blow it off when you could have just started a fight with the guy throwing rocks, you both complete nothing, and receive a 50% each. But what do I care because my boss the admin is going to not pass me - renew my contract because I can't control the kids and admin can respond to reports or support positive behavior. That would require documentation. |

With and Upper level kids it also depends on how well adjusted or antisocial they are. How much they have been influenced by no rules, classroom chaos over the past 3 decades, credit for nothing. Yes they may be smart but it doesn't mean they are self disciplined or if they are bouncing off the wall on uppers. A lotof times parents get the students in and the students don't want to be there. They want to be playing around like the honors and gen eds. Honors are usually 80% white and gen eds are usually 90% brown- thats another conversation though. Point is standards are crap across the boards and it is influenced as admin makes our job insecure, the union takes our money to turn blind eyes, and they have us manipulating data and no reporting crime. If those small issues were fix, addressed, or even just recognized we would improve education vastly. My guess though is it's easier to just go on a biZnusazuzul because the top level players have been playing this game and getting rich off it for a long time.
To my fans: Sometimes learning the truth sucks but ignoring these obvious truths are just foolish. |

Also we have a lot of these high schoolers across the board unable to read past an elementary level. Is a tenth grade teacher suppose to take bad reviews and career ending criticism when they have to teach highschool curricula to people that shouldn't have been fraudulently passed along for an entire decade. They won't be able to keep up and or we won't be able to challenge the progress the ones that can read and understand the prerequisite material.
The problem that our corrupted system created is that it gives teachers the impossible task of creating dozens of alternative lesson plans to cater to the exact needs of all the levels and not to mention all of the 504 sped requirements. Then there is grading and pointless meetings etc. there is not enough time in the day. Teachers are punished for not being able to work double unpaid overtime. They are not respecting are rights to work the parameters of legally binding contracts, they are not respecting our rights not to be harassed and assaulted, and they are not respecting our fortitude of following the rules and laws as they are required of us. |
| Sorry if I sound rude. I am just doing the job that I wish my expensive union did for me which is speak out and try to protect the people who are bullied or are afraid to stand up to bullies themselves. |
| You can’t put together a coherent sentence. I truly hope you are a troll, because the prospect of you in a classroom is disturbing for multiple reasons. |
|
OP, are you expecting your child to not turn in their work or to do work that deserves a grade below 50%? If not, then their grades will be accurate.
And if a classmate of your kid gets a C- instead of a D, it will really have no impact on your child one way or the other. |

Yo Karen. Have you ever typed with 2 fingers on a phone. Sometimes there are errors. I am about content and debating the facts and systematic structures. I'm not about insulting people about spelling errors.
You don't sound like a teacher bc teachers know what goes on in schools. Most teachers do the bidding bc they do t want to lose their job so they play the numbers game. Other teachers have a moral code to not fraud data. We are usually given a hard time and then discarded. The latter is usually the good teachers. |
| Forget the floor grade...I am in shock that teachers are getting fired because the classroom is out of control. If this is true, shame on the admin for not supporting and/or training teachers with classroom management. There is a huge shortage. Who are they going to get to replace you? |
Why? What a peculiar thing to be concerned with. |
+1 No minimum grade policy plus rules for academic probation, retaking failed classes, or mandatory summer school to bring the grade to an acceptable level. Also a mimimum grade threshhold to stay in the school. Students do fail out or leave when they see that their high school transcript isn't going to look like what it could be at an easier school. It's not for everyone, so be careful what you wish for. |
