At 45 you still have a lot to learn about life.

I sure do, but palpitations wasn't on my list of stuff to expect. None of my friends have had these symptoms. I don't like being weak.

I read about his and it has to do partly with moving from warm to cold and adding the physical aspect on top of that.

Cold brings on more chances of blood clots.

“ Shoveling snow significantly increases the body’s need for oxygen. To meet this demand, the heart must work harder: The heart rate rises, the heart pumps more forcefully, and blood pressure increases to deliver oxygen to the working muscles.

The cold temperature also causes blood vessels to constrict and makes the blood more prone to clotting. The coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart can also narrow, reducing oxygen delivery to the heart muscle itself.”

Everyone, put a silk scarf or mask or something loosely over your nose and mouth to warm the air.

OP, do you have a pulse ox or blood pressure monitor or anything? At least check your pulse.

Call your doctor.

Stop shoveling.

If you feel pain, dizziness, malaise call 911.

You also should warm up first before shoveling snow like you would before a strenuous run.

What happened? I'm interested in knowing what you did so I can avoid and take precautions. I am around that age now and I love to shovel snow.

70 and midwest also. As I've gotten older I discovered that when it gets really cold I feel a degree of oxygen starvation and my heart pounds fast. So I stop every couple of minutes to catch up on my breathing and let my heartrate slow down. I mentioned to the doctor at my wellness check but apparently it's a reaction to the cold.

What I hate is that my nose runs like a faucet in the cold. Upside is I never get congested sinuses. All I can do is let my scarf get slimy with snot and wash it later.

Palpitations are almost always nbd however you should absolutely not do any more shoveling and you need to wait til you’ve seen a doctor/had an ekg to assume they are nbd in your case.

Get back out there and finish or your neighbors will report you to 311

Perimenopause does this. You'll be fine.

It’s really cold, and your arteries have to operate semi-frozen.

311 don't care. Government isn't as dumb as citizenry.

OP, if someone else can help you that's best.

But if not, you can still shovel, just do it half as fast. Which sucks.

Shovel once, rest once. Shovel once, rest once.
