Are you using Chat-GPT ALL THE TIME?

I guess I just assume it’s the next version of Google. I tried using it for therapy and it was really helpful helpful and also used it for some legal advice. And some recipes, etc. but I haven’t really thought much about it. Other than that - Google is really annoying these days so it’s much easier than all the pop-ups that happen when you Google and try to look at different websites.

I have read that using it for travel basically takes you to the most populated and touristy spots.

Do people agree with this?

It's imprecise, not to be relied on.

I use it sometimes. It’s useful.

I don’t use it all the time

Never use it.

The problem is that it's built from stolen data, it's compiling personal data from your inputs, and it uses a ton of electricity and water ... to get the same thing you could get from a static website if you're lucky and it doesn't hallucinate. So pointless.

I don’t think you understand AI

1) set up my tv monitor so I could get streaming services
2) fix a broken door switch on my dryer (ok, it didn’t do a great job on this)
3) research trips to Costa Rica and possibly a safari
4) identify different USB connectors
5) fix a google sheet formatting issue
6) wash handknit sweaters
7) come up with three fantastic (well two fantastic and one pretty good) soup recipes

I’m beginning to get concerned about how much I’m relying on this...

Same. Same. I’ve been using it to handle interpersonal issues too

And it hallucinates. A lot.

Not really accurate

It seems like a lot of people on here do not understand what AI is and how it works. It provides answers by sorting through tons of info and providing answers based on probability. Statistics. That’s where the hallucinations come from- those are statistically likely/logical answers.

If you’re getting a touristy response to a prompt it’s bc that location is statistically the most popular. But you can easily change the prompt to get better answers - ‘ I am going to Paris. I’ve been there before. I want non touristy suggestions for restaurants, where locals eat’.

Beyond that, no. It creeps me out how lazy people are. I grew up before "google it" was a viable approach; we had to go to the library, y'all. To hear people whine about how it's just SO HARD to use the entire available internet yourself when ChatGPT could cobble together some stolen crumbs that may/may not even be accurate is just tragic to me. It's terrifying how dependent some of y'all are willing to let yourselves be. "Good enough" for lazy people will be the end of humanity.

God save you if/when the internet goes out.

Oh boy. You are so delusional

Cht didn't get exasperated with me when I changed my mind about what day to do an activity, if I wanted to reroute the schedule, if I wanted to see what would happen if I moved an activity from one day to another. It was great! When I asked to move a tour to a different day, Cht told me that would not be a good way to spend my time because I would be in that area on a different day.

Yes, it's like google. But with searching (google) you have to individually find each piece of information and then synthesize it. ChtGpt does all that for you from just a simple prompt.

PP paraphrased "Thinking is HARD".

If you can't do this, traveling is such a massive liability for you. I guess you'll be fine, if everything works out exactly according to ChatGPT's plan (assuming, of course, it gave you accurate info, which is never guaranteed). But what happens if you get delayed, get sick, change your mind, sprain your ankle... That skillset you're using ChatGPT to bypass training, where you find piece of information and put them in order, is a valuable life skill you're going to let atrophy in favor of what you think is saved time but is mostly just wasted water.

Please continue to practice thinking for yourself. Your happiness may depend on it, and your ability to function as a human definitely will.

This sounds nuts

I tried that for a few tourist hotspot where I've lived before and some of the recommendations were really bad. The problem was that there were enough good recommendations that it was hard to parse out where it was really off (like sending you to a non existent or closed restaurant on the other side of the city, weird travel suggestions that were either unrealistic time frames or not particularly safe, etc.)
