Yeah, we are headed for a partial shutdown: (this is from a FedFam post on Facebook)

House action:
• The House has passed the final FY 2026 minibus covering Defense, Labor–HHS–Education, and Transportation–HUD (341–88).
• The House also passed the Homeland Security bill separately (220–207).
• These, plus the previously House-passed State/Foreign Operations (SFOPS) bill and the Financial Services bill, are now headed to the Senate.
Senate plans:
• The Senate aims to take up all six pending bills this week, even with potential schedule delays from a weekend snowstorm.

I tend to think that a compromise will be worked out. Given the tight timeline, there might be a brief shutdown over the weekend or, at most, for Monday or Tuesday too.

You need the House back to to vote on a modified bill, even if all they modify is lifting DHS out and no clear indication they’re willing to pass any modifications. This a mess.

The government should just quit collecting taxes. The whole thing is a joke anyway. No enforcement agents means that no one will be checking if people are actually paying or not. Why force people to continue to work at the IRS in this situation?

I wish there were a rule that no one on Capitol Hill gets paid until a full budget is passed -- and a ban in retroactive pay for Capitol Hill if not passed on time. With a rule like that, they would develop focus and pass a budget on time.

That’s not what this is about. This is about doing their other job, i.e. checking the executive branch.

We won’t shut down if the administration does something more meaningful than shuffling the deck chairs with regard to ICE. Heads need to roll, metaphorically.

But in this admiration, they would probably shoot 1040EZ filters and ignore billionaire tax evaders.

What is the status of the bills? I read that the House needs to approve the bills if they take DHS out, but the House is in recess until next Tuesday.

I dont see what that has to do with what I posted. Pretty sure the lege is already funded so their staff will get paid regardless.
