| We went out early from 7:30-9ish and are now home making waffles. We wanted to catch the fluffy snow before the sleet arrived. We also got the first round of shoveling done. |
How dangerous is that? With layer of ice? |
Sure it is. If that were the case, kids in the Midwest would never leave their homes. I grew up in Michigan and we’d play outside in this weather all the time. In DC it’s 17 right now, feels like 3. My kids are outside right now. |
| It's ice coming down and not snow. |
That means no sledding. I did not want to wake up the whole neighborhood at 7am sledding at a slope with toms of townhouses around it. Now we miss the chance. |
Depends on how steep the hill is. Getting going a little faster isn't that big of a deal. But if you don't stop yourself and hit something then it is. So make sure your kid knows how to stop the sled. Worst injury I ever got sledding in Michigan was a bloody nose when I was 5. |

When my kids were little, we'd try to go out once around 9-10 am, then again mid afternoon. An hour at a time was plenty for them.
By noon or 1pm, teenagers are filling up the sledding hills so it's a lot more crowded. My kids are teens now and love going then, but not much when they were young. |
| Tomorrow! |
Tomorrow likely will be too icy. Much more dangerous. |
The snow will be here all week, sweetie, have you looked at the temperature forecast? It won't just go away when the precipitation falls, LOL! |
I'm from Michigan, it's all good. |
I'm also from Michigan and... no. |
My kids have been outside shoveling for different houses in the neighborhood for 2 hours. If you’re bundled and active, you stay comfortable. |
| It's fine right now because the ice is powdery but with the freezing rain that's supposed to hit what's likelynto happen tonight is a thicker crust of ice is going to form on top. Much, much less pleasant to play on. |
Another Michigander here! I say it’s fine depending on the amount of ice. Just be careful. Tie broken I guess. lol |
