REI vs The North Face vs LL Bean

I hope you don't eat any food produced in Trump voting states.

Patagonia sizing is a joke. I'm 5 ft 9, 165 pounds, athletic trim build, mens dress shirts 16/32. A medium is skin tight on me.

for skiing or for kids for winter? If skiing I'd start at a ski shop.

I have a pair of LL Bean snow pants and they are the world's least flattering piece of clothing. I don't care enough to replace them but they could not be uglier.

The bolded above pretty much sums up the brand.

Patagonia and Arc'teryx

We genuinely want to like LL Bean but too much of their new stuff just feels like Chinese junk.

REI you can get Patagonia at REI. Bean is slow delivery.

This is the answer. Direct from the source or vintage.

REI brick mortar stores generally open up one hour later (10am) than LL Bean. They are going to lose out on shoppers who can shop during that 9am hour.

REI sells both North Face and Patagonia, among other brands. Just start there.

Patagonia really holds up. My daughter is now wearing my stuff from the late 80s and early 90s.

That's amazing. I wonder if that's just bc the clothing was better quality in general at that time. I regret giving away all my old sweaters from the 90s and early 2000s.

I prefer LL bean.

I do shop north face and Patagonia occasionally but north face quality is hit or miss and Patagonia is too trendy.

Where I live Helly Hansen is popular for outerwear.

HH is not a bad brand but it’s popular because it’s trendy. Like Fjallraven

I have shopped at REI and LLBean for 20+ years.

I like REI because:
-They are more comprehensive. They sell their own decent brand as well as items from Patagonia, North Face, Columbia and many other brands.
-They have good customer service with free shipping and free ship-to-store.
-There is a store nearby, so returns are easy.

LLBean is more of a casual, frumpy old lady store. I mostly shop their t-shirts and petite pants (loving their lined jeans right now) but have also bought good bags and coats from them. Their quality has gone down recently and their shipping and returns are not as convenient as REI.

Well yes, HH is very popular and where I live and it has replaced Patagonia as the trendy outerwear brand. People don’t wear much Fjallraven here from what I see around town.

Hence why I prefer to stick with LL Bean.
