Am I tempting fate here, or just being practical?

Superstition isn't real. So, I'd buy it.

I buy a special treat for my kid whenever they have something big in play for the decision day. It can be a congrats or a "I know you tried" gift. Would that work?

Thanks for this. I know you’re right. It’s a joke-y thing that’s only funny or appropriate in the event he gets it, so it’s really useless if not.

if there's only 1 in stock but it's a joke-y gift, is it something you could source on like Etsy ?

can you ask a friend to buy it and hold onto it if you want to dispel superstition

Months ago I came across a very niche gift that would be perfect if he gets it. The problem? There’s currently only one left in stock, so if I want it, I need to buy it now. It’s $5, so cost isn’t an issue, and if he doesn’t get the job I’ll donate it.

Here’s the (possibly irrational) hang-up: I’m superstitious and worried this is “putting the cart before the horse” or somehow inviting bad karma.

DCUM reality check requested—is this silly superstition, or would you wait until there’s an offer in hand?

How soon after he hears about that offer can you get the gift to you/delivered?

I’d have to order it now, like tonight.

Golly, 5 bucks? That’s a LOT of money.

You’re, like, completely missing the point. Also, who says “golly”?

Don’t buy it. There’ll be another opportunity to get something as a gift. Don’t jinx it!!!
