They don’t offer Mandarin though.

Hadn't really researched this as neither of my kids would have been eligible to attend. But fits the vibe.

Eligible?

Presumably the kids are girls.

Presumably the respondent was OP who has a son. Or the PP could have IDed themselves as not being OP.

This is a very tall order to get all these things.

9th grade admissions from public school are tough. Might have to apply widely just to get an acceptance.

GDS and Maret offer Mandarin.

SSSAS offers Chinese, although I assume the Virginia location rules it out.

If Basis McLean is on the menu then Potomac is probably the better option for a sporty kid.

OP said NW DC, willing to go to MD. So neither Basis nor Potomac is what they are looking for.

Agree Basis is not a good fit if athletics are important in addition to academics, however.

If you want to continue Mandarin wouldn’t you want to go DCPS at Yu Ying instead of private? I’m not sure what private schools offer Chinese.

“We’re atheists.”

Whatever

Why even comment if you don't bother reading the OP's question? So much ignorance in this comment.

OP, depending on where in NW, Potomac could be pretty close and closer than a lot of the MD schools. If you are in palisades, georgetown, foxhall, etc, then i'd definitely look at it b/c it ticks all your boxes. The bus service is great, too. You could do a shuttle to NW or a neighborhood bus to NW.
