Oberlin is in a rural location, but only 20 minutes from Cleveland/airport and near Interstates 80/90. Not as rural and more accessible compared to some of the New England LAC’s… |
But it is damn cold |
| Winter also comparable to New England. |
| D26 in- it's at the top of her list. Got a fantastic financial aid package, I suspect it will end up being the most affordable option for us & DD knows that if she picks Oberlin, she'll have $ left over in her 529 for grad school. 3.9 UW, TO, strong ECs. She's visited campus twice and loved it both times, our tour guides were excellent. We're very excited for her! |

S26 got in with 34k merit. 3.8UW/35 ACT. It’s a strong option but he still has more schools he’d like to hear back from.
Can anyone comment on social life for a straight, white guy who isn’t playing a varsity sport? (He’s an artist, drummer, rock climber, very left/progressive). I have heard there’s a big athlete/non-athlete divide. |
| Lots of much better options. Extremely woke vibe. |
I'm so tired of asshats like you. If it isn't for you, just move on, and let these families celebrate. OP, a friend's kid is there and loving it. Enjoys her classes (math major, statistical modelling minor), has made a great group of friends, plays a sport, isn't in their very competitive conservatory but still able to play her instrument (apparently the studios are nice) & I think sings in a group. Congratulations to everyone's DC. |
Let PP say it. Any place that is labeled "woke" by someone who thinks that is an insult is okay with a lot of us.. Thanks to DCUM comments I know to stay away from certain schools and add others to the list. |
It’s likely students applying to Oberlin know the vibe and it’s what they’re looking for. You’re not offering any meaningful insight. |
Dating will be great for him there. |
