Region 5 will have just Gaithersburg, QO and Watkins Mill? Where does Magruder go with Option H?

Does this mean that not only do Gaithersburg and QO residents lose the brand new school that was supposed to solve the overcrowding, but now lose access to the newest labs too since Option H will put Crown in Region 4?

The courses in each region are also not the same and Region 5's magnet kids will not have access to advanced engineering, the aviation program at Magruder, ptech

I wonder if a lawsuit against this inequality will have merit since the regional magnets were supposed to make all courses accessible to all.

Yup! If you want ant Gaithersburg to keep access to Crown, you need to support the Wootton cluster’s oppose H efforts. You need to testify at BOE.

Be sure to come with a check for $30 million to pay for the school we don't need.

So why is it that MCPS is building a school we don’t need? Don’t Wootton parents for MCPS poor decision making.

Frankly, I thought of Option H went through, Crown would stay in Region 5, then MCPS would do a magical wave of the hand and say "Wootton, you're now Region 5."

No way to tell what will happen until Supt presents his final reco.

The link OP provided clearly shows that under H, Crown/Wootton will be 4. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1645soUgcpJOZ4cH8qfKx4Wl-EH8KNIoO/view

I’m surprised people are just learning of this, because this has always been the case since H was announced publically.

Look at how much the Wootton cluster is freaking out about a handful of Gaithersburg kids joining them. You don’t think the outrage would double or triple if Crown/Wootton is moved to region 5…

And in all reality, even if Mcps said to hell with it and waves said magical wand and send them to 5, pretty sure a huge chunk of the pissed off parents would move to Churchill cluster or go private.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to that chart, as it came from Flo Analytics, the boundary study consultant, not the central office staff working on the regional program analysis. Flo has not been part of the regional program work.

ICYMI, MCPS already did a magical wave of the hand - moving QO to Region 5. They can do it again after boundary study and regional model passes a BOE vote. Because that will just be an operational adjustment and not require a BOE vote.

Region 5 welcomes wootton to join them even though it seems to be one sided love.

When this gets thrown out there, it not only grossly overestimates the capacity at privates (particularly of the kind which might substitute favorably from an academic perspective) but also grossly underestimates the burden to families of moving (particularly with low inventory, and more particularly in catchments such as Churchill's).

The latter presents a far greater injustice than any to Wootton when considered in reference to MCPS's continual failure to resource schools at the variable levels necessary for individual students to expect reasonably similar experiences no matter where across the system they are served. If this, instead, were the case, there would be little need for families to consider such drastic action in relation to something which would be rendered so trivial as a change in prospective regional assignment.

Wootton's catchment, whether served at Crown or not, isn't transportationally amemable to inclusion in region 5. Really, with that in mind, MCPS should be looking at swapping Rockville from region 4 with Quince Orchard from region 5.

I don't get how Damascus belongs in Region 6. Laytonsville ES to Poolesville HS is 41 minutes while Thurgood Marshall (zoned for QO) to Poolesville is half that time - 20 minute drive.

If they are proposing Option H, how do they justify taking away the new school access from Region 5?

They should also change which schools belong in which region.

It could go like this:

One swap: Whichever school is at Crown gets to be in Region 5, move Magruder to Region 4

A second swap: Damascus to Region 5 and QO to Region 6 as it was originally.
