Chevy Chase

I don’t believe he was this way his whole career. He might’ve been always difficult and arrogant, but not to the degree he was in later years. There was an oral telling of Christmas vacation by Rolling Stone and Johnny Galecki who played Rusty seemed to like him and have a good experience on that movie. I think things got worse for Chevy in the 90s as his career started to stall.

People are now comparing him to Ryan Reynolds as Ryan is getting more difficult and arrogant in later years - it was reported at the SNL 50th, no one wanted a picture with either Chevy or Ryan and they got a picture together.

I recall from reading a history of SNL that came out some years ago that he was hated while on the show. He was the breakout star from the first season and left after that because he felt he was too good for the show. The rest of the cast and writers were glad to see him go.

+1 He came close to a fistfight with the guys who stayed and Bill Murray who was new when he came back to host IIRC.

I think Bill Murray would be annoying AF IRL too, though!

Bill Murray can literally do no wrong.

Really? I find him so annoying! I am kinda dismayed about Chevy Chase though. I guess he’s an AH too.

Smart, funny, entertaining guys are not necessarily nice. And it's not a prerequisite for success

Based on this interview he sounds clueless or he's lying. It annoyed me just to read his answers. If he's really this unaware of his effect on others, he's either immature, delusional, or sadistic and doesn't care.

He's on the autism spectrum and has no clue how he comes across and how he makes people feel, and is probably combative and in denial that he has any sort of brain difference.

Some autistic people who are a little more self-aware, especially autistic women, can be very worried about how they come across, and make every effort to be as nice as they can - which, given they have autism, also leads to slightly odd behavior. I am one such person. But at least they tend the other way. CC just can't manage that part of his neurodivergence, and it's hurt HIM more than it's hurt others. It's his career that has stopped. So instead of piling on to criticize him, I'd say that it's unfortunate... for him.

Bob Woodward’s gritty bio of Belushi has a lot of good detail about the first SNL cast. Belushi and many others in the cast thought he was the star, but Chase and the viewing public clearly disagreed. He was never an insider in that group, and he was older. Agree with those who say he is clearly neurodivergent. What’s funny is that Dan Akroyd identifies as autistic as well, but seems not to have had the same interpersonal challenges.

A recent study came out to suggest (not confirmed yet) that there are 4 major genetic pathways involved in autism. So in the future, once we've teased out those pathways and identified others, we will understand why autistic people can be so different from each other. Perhaps the spectrum will be split into several different disorders.

Chevy Chase has a 40 year documented history of being mean to children who are his fans.

Wait- so now, is he an AH or simply a misunderstood autistic?

He's probably one of the more annoying celebrities there is.

His entire act is treating strangers like crap and they just lap it up.

Yeah, he sounds like he has a sadistic streak. Like sometimes he's nice but sometimes does stuff just to f*ck with people. It sounded like he did this to Lucy Liu during a film.
