I just read that none of his costars from Community wanted to appear on the documentary coming out about his life. What is the story here?

The story is that he has always been a huge assh0le. This is well known. I have no interest in this "documentary" whatsoever. Even the promo stories they tell on CNN are cringe.

I’ve heard that he leaned into his clueless, racist character too much on Community and alienated all the other actors. I’ve also heard he and Bill Murray don’t get along, but honestly I think Bill Murray would be an exhausting person to be around. Are there credible stories that he’s a jerk in general?

He's reputed to be arrogant and rude to everyone. I think he must be toxic because Hollywood PR tends to be able to promote fake good reputations. He has no defenders.

Part of it, if I can just say, is that he was a non sober alcoholic for many years. But yes, he is not well liked, mainly because of his own behavior

No one likes him. I was just reading on social media that Joel McHale (from Community) has a chapter in his book about how to fight Chevy Chase because Chase attacked him so often on set. I had previously heard he was fired from Community for using the n-word.

I met him in a professional context (pitch session) and it was absolutely the worst meeting I have ever been in. But what struck me is that most celebs can “turn it on” so to speak and he simply couldn’t while the cameras weren’t rolling. I think he’s neurodivergent. He seems to be genuinely close to his actual family.

He was in the original SNL cast and kind of set the tone / meshed with the tone of comedy at the time. That whole group of SNL people are where National Lampoon came from as well as all his bigger movies (Caddyshack, Three Amigos etc were with SNL people). But he has consistently burned those bridges.
Community basically had him play himself.

I had no idea about all this but just googled it and it was confirmed in multiple places.
