Compared with nearly any other country, US universities overall do well in allowing free speech. The US universities are far from perfect, but do well compared to many other countries' universities.

I agree - but beware the SLACs. Wesleyan is god awful for anyone not on the left politically (including moderates)- you will be a pariah, unless you are an athlete and then you will just hide amongst your teammates for 4 years
