Office/apprecation etiquette...would this bother you?

You see it as a gift and expect thanks, and they see it as additional compensation and perceive that it would be inappropriate or unprofessional to acknowledge it in a personal way?

That's my guess as well. Maybe next year call it a gift?

How did you hand out the bonus? They didn't say thank you immediately upon receipt? I worked very part time remotely for a small business a few years ago. There was an email informing me of a $500 bonus (around 1 month of work) at the end of the year, of course I replied with thank you.

Even in a job when I got a non holiday bonus for performance I told my boss (who put me on bonus list) that I was happy to get it and appreciated it.

People who act like it's just more pay lack office social skills.

Next year OP tell them that instead of holiday bonuses you are donating the money to charities, if they have suggestions let you know.

This was a gift not a bonus. It was given along with a box of cookies. I think the word bonus was wrongly used.

It was a check or cash in a card with the box of cookies. There is no one out there who can make me believe a quick email, text or phone is not absolute ed the right thing to do to say hey thank for the generous. gift, Merry Christmas.

I have a friend and a sister who each own small businesses, they fave far less and everyone of those employees went out of their way to thank them. It has me really rethinking who I have hired (especially because they are all getting paid at least 25% more than they would do the job elsewhere) just really hurt.

They don’t need to thank you. You need to thank them.

I gave $2000 to my main person and $500 to everyone else. NOT ONE text call or email to say thanks. I handed them out on Tuesday.I feel 100% sure they were opened. When I used to work for someone I always gave my boss a card with a box of candy or a bottle of champagne..something just because it felt right. I am good to these people in an industry that is hurting, they are all lucky to have the job they do. I am an easy boss, easy going and understanding, but this to me, really hurt me. Am I expecting too much?

If you really think this way, you have every hallmark of being a sh boss.

DP, but you have every hallmark of being an ungrateful sh!theel of an employee.

It's a business. Are the clients/customers supposed to be grateful that OP provides goods and services for a price?

is this a joke? most businesses don't give a gift. they might give a bottle of champagne or candy if that. so they are given a check for 2000 and don't owe a thank you??? what planet do you live on?

lets say you are working at a small biz, your boss hands you a Christmas gift, with a kind note, a box of candy and a check for $2000. You don't say thank you?

I really need to know if someone out there feels this way.

That stinks, OP. I'm sorry. An acknowledgment was definitely called for.

Even if it's a note and a box of candy you say THANK YOU.

This is how we make our careers great again. Not.

I am shocked, OP. Are these young people?

Was the check hidden inside the box of cookies?

It was a very nice gesture for you to do that.

Agree. Totally lame.
