Please suggest lower reach and target schools

My DS was rejected from Case but accepted at Brown (we didn't tour/do any online info sessions at CWRU)

Looking for suggestions for more attainable reaches and target colleges similar to Yale, Brown and Rice. DD most interested in interdisciplinary studies (science and language), want a research university with collaborative, learning for learning’s sake culture, not pre-professional. Full pay from well respected private HS known to elite colleges but otherwise an unhooked applicant, top 10% of class. Every year top 35% of class get into Ivy+ WASP but we don’t know how many are legacy (not many are athletes).

Science and language? Pretty broad. Can't advise on best schools without truly knowing what your kid wants to study. I mean certain schools do certain majors a lot better than others in preparing their graduates. For instance, if by science you mean CS or Engineering, my list will be very different. If by science you mean Biology or say Chemistry etc. then I'd say you are wide open for whatever school.

look at wash u, tufts, gu, emory, gw, bu, cornell, MI. DC accepted to all RD/EA, rejected from yale and brown, wl at rice. in at pitt and mcgill fwiw.

Tufts, Wesleyan, Vassar, Oberlin, Rochester (in rough order of selectivity).

For OP, some of these are safeties.
Tufts yield protects RD so it’s a low reach, but schools like Rochester oberlin Wesleyan should be safeties.

You've listed all Private colleges/universities so far. Interested in Public Universities?

You've listed all Private colleges/universities so far. Interested in Public Universities?

OP- Yes definitely interested in publics. DH and I both went to public colleges and thought our education prepared us well. DD’s school’s scattergram is full of privates and her friends with her stats are touring those schools so she only has those on her list so far. We consider McGill and Pitt publics.

I would put UW - Madison on the list then. Good sciences program along with language.

DD strongly considered REA to Yale but fell in love with Smith and EDed there instead. I know you said research university but check it out. With its open curriculum, you can easily double major in unrelated areas. DD is a double major in STEM and humanities. Academics are top notch. It’s an impressive place. They even have engineering. She’s very happy there.

Target, but not true targets since they have low acceptance rates and yield protect, but a top 10% kid at a private should get in to

Vassar
Macalester
Carleton
William and Mary

Another safety to add is st Andrews Scotland which has a ton of Americans, a campus feel, and is very strong and admits on scores no BS.

Also if showing demonstrated interest as a classic major she’ll get into Yale and brown.
