| ^^ spot on. It's a gift, you just say thank you and move on |
| Return or donate |
Because God forbid a teen girl is seen in a very convincing dupe. Name brand only for the 15 year olds!!!!!!! |
| You sound insufferable, OP. I hope to god you haven't talked to your daughter about this, but if you have, you are teaching her the absolute wrong lessons. |
+1 Really OP? |
This is correct. Your cousin only spent $25 and they appear to be functional shoes, so she hasn't wasted money. Your DD likes them and can't tell the difference, and they aren't obvious enough that anyone else will be able to tell anyway. So basically the only person bothered here is you and it's not clear why? |
They were $25 off. $150 high end dupe $125 for example. |
| Amazon is the worst |
I certainly hope my cousin would tell me this!! But it depends on how close you are. |
| I would not tell cousin but would get the return credit from Amazon and pay the difference for new ones. Spending &125 on shoes that will wear out faster (due to inferior materials) is a waste. |
The legit manufacturer certainly cares. |

OP with an update:
I chatted with Amazon who said we could return for credit without cousin knowing. They do seem to have legit shoes for not much more $. So we will do that. Interesting: the chat was very nice, friendly, I was mostly asking questions about process…but as soon as the customer service rep identified the Amazon seller the convo immediately got escalated for now obvious reason. I hadn’t said why I was asking questions or anything - hadn’t hinted at dupes at all. Makes me think they’ve gotten a lot of complaints about that seller? Hard to know. Fwiw, it’s not about “name brand only” for me or for my daughter (who btw is an adult and absolutely knows about dupes without my telling her). I know there’s no way to prove this to any of you, and that’s fine, but I’m not that person. I’m a second-hand/vintage shopper in almost all cases. My closet and home is filled with Goodwill and fb Marketplace goods. But I think if someone is spending $150 on what they think is a just-right name-brand item, it should actually be that item. Otherwise they are being taken advantage of by the least scrupulous among us. I dunno, that seems kinda existentially crummy. Anyway, thanks for all your input and suggestions. I didn’t realize I could exchange without cousin knowing. Appreciate it, and I appreciate all of you (even the ones who assumed I was The Worst — we’d actually probably get along quite well irl). Happy holidays, all. |
* got escalated for no obvious reason |
I think PPs may have been thrown off by the idea that your DD would decline to wear them because they are dupes even though they are otherwise perfectly wearable and good dupes. |

I'm glad you reported it to Amazon because they have enough profits to tackle the fraudsters they host.
I'm still frosty about the company that never sent the $8 toy my kid really wanted. And a used iPad keyboard sold as new. |
