The MAGA Nanny State

Large-scale behavior change is whole point of the U.S. government. Google and read. Government created the internet too.

That said, I would still like to pick my shoes please. High heels hurt and I can’t run in them!

No, not really. “Suggested” “urged” “promoted”

All are free to ignore, and most will.

Except taxes. Those are not voluntary. That is the single most important act of civil participation.

I thought the whole point of the U.S. government is to support our freedom. From what I see, Republicans talk about "freedom" but do not actually seem to support it, particularly not for women.

Nothing says “I have no idea what I’m doing and I don’t even care to learn” more than giving such stupid “advice” about serious issues.

Below are some examples. I'm sure this isn't the last of this kind of talk we will hear form this administration of scolds. Before MAGA comes at me saying these government officials are right, I don't disagree but I also know that Americans, in general, do not like being told what to do.

*This trend started to get my attention when Sean Duffy, as part of his new "Golden Age of Travel" civility campaign, urged airline passengers to "dress with some respect" by wearing "a pair of jeans and a decent shirt" instead of pajamas or slippers. He claimed that dressing better "encourages us to behave better" and reduces in-flight disruptions.

* In the same campaign, advised travelers to "say please and thank you," "help older flyers with their bags," and "control your children" during air travel to foster a more courteous atmosphere and scolded passengers for "put[ting] your feet on the chair ahead of you" or "play[ing] your movie without your headphones on."

*Now Duffy is suggesting that passengers work out at the airport before boarding a flight. He proposed federal grants to install workout areas in airports, encouraging passengers to do pull-ups or step-ups to "get some blood flow" before boarding flights as part of his "civility" campaign.

*Dr. Oz just sent emails to federal employees with holiday diet tips, including "You don’t have to try every cookie on the holiday table," and weekly advice on "Crushing Cubicle Cravings" to discourage office snacking and promote healthier eating habits.

*Recently RFK promoted breastfeeding as superior to infant formula, saying "all the ingenuity of corporate America... has not produced an infant formula that is superior in nutrition... to the infant formula that God made, which is the infant formula in a mother's breast." [I happen to agree with this but I keep that opinion to myself because the topic is highly divisive among American women and is better left alone by high ranking government officials.]

*Pete Hegseth publicly fat-shamed military leaders and top generals for their weight at that bizarre meeting in Quantico, telling them to adopt stricter fitness regimens and healthier diets to "live lean, mean, and super patriotic" in the armed forces. [Being fit is now being "super patriotic"?]

Trump has never been a small government conservative. He cornered a demographic that we all too long ignored: people who are big government interventionists and social and cultural conservatives

Republicans are not the party of freedom whatsoever.

Republicans are the part of Freedom From Government (except when they want their Social handput, of course), not Freedom from Men.

I also fully supported Michelle Obamas crusade and crap junk food.

Bring back high standards for public behavior and social shaming.

Yes, but the GOP made it their thing to oppose the nanny state, yet the nanny state is what they are creating.

Exactly what I was going to say. There is no "mandatory" this or that, no laws forbidding the sale of giant sodas, no laws making certain vaccines mandatory, etc. None of these suggestions have to be followed, though I do think some of them are common sense.

They despise freedom and equality, that’s why they get so frothed up about boot licking and tyranny. They can’t get enough.

Just imagine for a minute if an Obama or Biden administration official told a church what to put on their lawn.

How completely dishonest are you? ICE hasn't told them to take down this display. The Boston Archdiocese did, you utter imbecile.

The Boston Archdiocese wants it taken down, saying the display goes against church norms around sacred objects.

"The people of God have the right to expect that, when they come to church, they will encounter genuine opportunities for prayer and Catholic worship-not divisive political messaging," the Archdiocese's message read in part. "The display should be removed, and the manger restored to its proper sacred purpose."

ICE simply agreed with them.

ICE Director Todd Lyons condemned the manger's message.

"On behalf of ICE and our many law enforcement professionals in Massachusetts, many of whom are practicing Catholics, and first-generation Americans, I applaud the Catholic Church and the Archdiocese of Boston for taking a stand against such a dangerous and extremist narrative."

Tell us you know nothing about breastfeeding by showing us. And you did.

And which Trump administration official has told this church what to put on their lawn? We'll wait while you spin something up out of thin air.
