How would you use $5k to invest in yourself?

I want backyard chickens and raised garden beds. And one of those indoor vertical gardens

Do you like to work? I'd buy time and then do what the heck I want with it.
Depending how old you are, this can buy you 1-2 years of freedom from work.

I would spend on a personal trainer and maybe a super healthy meal kit (like sun basket) a few times a week. I find that in my busy life, the things that go by the wayside are more creative yet healthy dishes for our family and weight training for health and strength.

Several years ago, I set aside $3000 for something “special” — whatever that might turn out to be: from travel to an extravagant purchase. I ended up taking music lessons. That was enough for my first two instruments and over a year of lessons. I was welcome into a new community of musicians and enjoyed more than a few life-changing experiences.

So, I’d go with some kind of course or learning experience, that also might come with a new peer group to enjoy. I’d also probably just set the money aside until something came up that I really really wanted to do.

Put the money in VT and just watch YouTube videos to better yourself. They’re free and you can learn a lot.

This is inspiring.

For some reason over the past year or so I've been obsessed with the idea of learning to play the lyre or some kind of small harp. I should probably just do it.

You are such a vapid moron.

Or it may be a clever 90s pop-culture reference to Pat O'Brien, back in his Access Hollywood/Insider days.

Grab a sense of humor the next time you're running errands.

That's not all that clever of a reference, though. And not very funny -- in context or out. DP

This is what I did recently:

- massage 10 series = $1500
- acupuncture/herbalism sessions to work on something which was not responding to western medicine = $500
- jewelry (handmade small artisan) = $2500
- probably going to buy an oura ring = $500

5k would last 5 months for 2 weekly sessions, it is a great start.
