I was a college athlete & a military officer & I see the similarity. Not the SAME, obviously, but you’re part of a tightly knit group with lots of obligations, and it’s a constant struggle to balance your team/military responsibilities with the rest of your life. |

Northwestern is a top 10 school and Vandy is top 20 and extremely popular with great football team this year. By contrast BC is ranked 36 by US News and its football team won a grand total of 2 games. BC peers are closer to Villanova, BU or Northeastern. No way close to Northwestern or Vanderbilt. Nice try.

Agree, and I worked in BigLaw in Boston for six years, no affiliation with BC. BC carries a lot of weight. |
None of which has really anything to do with being an athlete, and of course it's possible that BC is the only offer on the table when the appropriate time comes. It's also possible that OP's kid is a LAX player and BC usually is competing for an ACC championship in both men's and women's. Finally, as others have said...if the kid wants to live in work in Boston post-graduation (which many kids do)...it has a great network. |
| BC boosters out in force today. But still a 2nd level Catholic school at best. |
| Disservice to Vanderbilt to compare it with BC. |
BC doesn’t have a mens lacrosse team. Although their women’s team is good. |
I agree with this. Being a a D1 athlete is a serious grind, not at all dissimilar to ROTC. They're both up by 6 am. If I were choosing between Vandy, Northwestern, and BC, I'd focus on the culture of the program. Do the athletes stay for all four years? It's a different era today with NIL and the transfer portal. Vandy in particular seems very serious about being a prominent D1 sports school - football, basketball, and baseball are all ranked teams. And that doesn't happen by accident. BC and Northwestern will likely be more chill. |
