Financial Aid Fraud

The fraud exist at the financial aid office. Why are non-US citizens kids given financial aid?

I know someone who did this. Literally lived in lap of luxury (beautiful home, cars, clothes lifestyle) but was able to apply for aid and show very low reported income. Kids got practically free tuition for 6 years. Now graduated.

The school had her home address and opportunities to see her cars and clothes. If the school cared about these things it would not have given financial aid.

I know a kid who gets financial aid and has a north face jacket, not even used.

Why shouldn’t they? Are the kids US citizens?

How dare they not wear only Walmart brand clothing?

Because schools are allowed to give aid to anyone they choose?

They probably bought it with those financial aid dollars. Probably thousands of dollars worth of luxury clothing and vacations while they get suckers like us to fund the whole scheme.

It's fairly difficult to fake low income. Some services get the information directly from the IRS.

I believe when you apply for financial aid, your information is sent directly to or they have access directly for IRS. I could be wrong

You have to provide all your tax returns, all your expenses, any debt. You have to provide documentation for everything.

To the poster talking about a north face jacket or financial aid families having nice things- maybe it was a gift from a grandparent or whomever. I don't think finances or how someone pays for things, including school is anyone's business. How do people even know who is awarded aid? At our school, it's not spoken about and I don't have a clue who gets it. I prefer it that way. I think OP should mind their own business and take up a new hobby outside of being the school's Karen. Volunteer your time at the school in other ways please.

They will get karma.

Confused by complaint. We were full pay and it hurt to see higher income families asking for money so they could send multiple kids. But foreign kids? I thought that was a great addition to our school. Loved having them and hearing their experiences. Why wouldn’t we want this?

I know someone at a school mentioned on here a lot who gets aid for 2 kids. Not sure how much to be honest but she’s always saying it’s great they get aid
Grandparent passed away and left assets including house to her DD. DD/the mom sold it and bought a new house in a vacation location.
Owns the new house…. But gets aid.
Totally turns me off the school.

How do you know it wasn’t a gift?
My kid wears North Face too. Greater outerwear, raincoats and a couple of hoodies. They’re all from the thrift store.
