Check Sierra trading post for deals. My teen has a really nice obermeyer ski jacket that we got a couple years ago from there for like $100 and it is still in pristine shape.
REI is also a great place to look, especially if you’re a member and get the member coupons. |
Why? |
+1 to Sierra and Obermeyer. Also really like the Killtec brand from Germany that they carry. |
| There are many quality brands out there. I'm a skier and my current jacket is from REI. My prior jacket was ArcTeryx. I like Helly Hansen, Arc Teryx, REI, and Patagonia. 686 is a trendier brand is quality made. Dope is fast fashion for skiers. You will see all kinds of gear out there. Go to REI or to a dedicated ski shop like Alpine Ski Shop or Sun n Ski. |
| Watch REI clearance - that's where I have gotten DD's. She had an Obermyer (Kids) for a few years and now has a Boulder Gear (Women's XS). |

my 16cyear kid wears this one

| Layering is essential. Thermal base on legs and top. Pants, ski pants, layered tops. The jacket doesn’t have to be a special “ski” jacket but it can’t be a cheap hollister jacket. Warm and waterproof is necessary. |
Probably because it comes off like PP is flexing that her daughter is too fashionable for HH…meanwhile she’s rolling up in some cheap Hollister crap. |
|
We have bought several ski jackets over the years from backcountry.com
Terrific options |
OP here. Thanks for saying this and thanks for all the brand recommendations, we’ve looked up several good options and just need to decide how to proceed! Thanks all! |
| My daughter likes Obermayer |
+1 The PP is trying to flex that her daughter wears “cool kids” Hollister crap and doesn’t ski – another weird flex- while obviously not understanding that the brands named are expensive high-quality jackets that even ski patrols use. |
This is true, but ski specific jackets have some nice perks, like they are always waterproof, the hood fits over a helmet, there’s usually a powder skirt and sometimes a sleeve pocket for your ski pass. Of those things, I’d say water resistance is the most important. |
Pretty sure there are Arc'tertx stores at both Tyson's and Montgomery Mall, if they want to try those on in person. |

I’m just coming back to this thread and saw some of you got crazy triggered by my Hollister comment! I had no idea it made such an impression.
I was only giving a suggestion on where to look for a winter coat for a teen. I’ve never gone skiing in my life and call any winter coat a ski coat. Obviously this is offensive to people who ski. That mistake won’t happen again. Sorry, ski community. Winter fashion coats are not ski coats. Got it. |
