Two Rockettes questions

I was worried that the crowds between Christmas and New Years would be absolutely bonkers.

Oh, they will be. Beyond bonkers. I don’t recommend if you are stressed by crowds.

Assuming you’re up for it, I strongly recommend you make lunch and dinner reservations (or plan to eat in neighborhoods far off the beaten path). You can’t count on walking in anywhere.

Personally, I think the view from the top mezzanine is great. You have a good view of the frost fairies and the lighting effects.

I’ve been several times and it never gets old. It’s one of my favorite Christmas traditions.

It is insanely crowded everywhere. Don't even try to go to a major museum unless you go right when it opens, it will be wall to wall people. We stayed at the Museum of Modern Art for exactly 20 minutes you could not even get into the galleries so we left. Definitely you need food reservations, to include breakfast (or just stay at a hotel with breakfast). Crowds by the Rockefeller Plaza are wall to wall at all times. So just plan ahead and if you are ok with crowds you will have fun.

I just went yesterday. Was in the second mezzanine seats, which were totally fine. I'd say only go if your group is the type that likes going to theatre shows. My son and I are not, so def got a bit bored of it pretty quickly.

We had a blast. Can't find our exact tickets but we were not at stage level. PPs are right in that you will want to see some of the patterns and formations better with a bird's-eye view. There will be huge crowds around the theatre because of its location, but you have tickets and will line up to get in with the rest of them. Just go like at least 30 mins ahead to get in line. The places that are miserable in NY are big stores (like American Girl) and museums. I will never, ever go to MOMA between Xmas and New Years again. Last year they closed the room with Starry Night for bad visitor behavior. Like wall to wall people crowding the room and doing selfies and falling into the painting area. Like being in the Mona Lisa room at the Louvre. Crazy!
