Have an uber pick up relatives?

This. Less sketchy.

I think getting in at 11:30 and expecting your host to not only wait up for you, but to coordinate your transportation, is diabolical. Get a hotel room for the night!

I would tell them honestly that you don't drive at night due to vision issues. For their own safety I can't imagine they'd object. Who would want to risk driving with someone who can't see well?!

Plus they'll be upstairs and the arrivals are downstairs. They'll mess it up, then be jerks to the driver and get you a 1 star. They can get their own uber.

Because Washington Flyer services IAD and OPs relatives are arriving to DCA.

Are you both older than the relatives you are picking up?

Anyway, prearranged car service so someone is waiting with a sign in teh baggage claim area.

+1. Not only will they pick them up, but they will help them with the luggage.

There may be no choice. For example if they are coming from a secondary city on the west coast, then it may involve flying to a hub, waiting 2 hours, then geting another flight.

NP - absolutely there could be no choice. I still wouldn’t expect my family, who would be hosting me for five days, to schlep to the airport at 11:30pm to pick me up.
