Depends on the teacher, we've definitely had teachers who scheduled all their conferences early and didn't have any on the conference days. |
+1. And I don’t blame them. I would do the same. |
Having teachers work till the day before Thanksgiving is unreasonable. Tuesday-Wednesday should be off. |
You want them to schedule a single instructional day Thanksgiving week? Not going to happen. Besides, just in the last few years we switched from a full day on Monday and half days on Tuesday and Wednesday to half days on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday off. Between that change, adding more religious holidays over the last decade, and adding a non instructional transition day this year, we’re down to one snow day built into the calendar. |
Yes, we used to get much longer breaks which was nice. MCPS doesn't plan well. |
Wednesday is off, isn't it? |
Wednesday off. Thank McKnight for that one. Much needed. |
| At our MS all conferences are on Mon so teachers can leave on Tuesday after school. I don't think they would want to start later in the day on Tuesday. |
Yeah this is true — Wednesday is such a rough travel day that I’m sure people want to travel Tuesday if they can. It would be one thing to have full days of school, but if it’s going to be short, let people get going. |
| But if you have to be at work by 9 and you're used to a morning routine, that would not be possible without taking a few hours off work (ES student). |
Yes, I think it’s ES parents who will not like this idea. High school I totally get |

Some of us drive our hs kids in the am as there is no bus. |
| I agree that I would like to see late openings more than early dismissals, BUT I think for many working class parents, it's easier to accommodate an early dismissal than a late arrival. |
Sorry. No snark was intended — it was an actual question at the time that has since been very much clarified |
