A few years ago either WaPo or NYt did an article projecting that within 50 years much of the Middle East (and parts of Africa and western hemisphere as well) would be unlivable for humans due to extreme heat. Literally unlivable at temperature where your brain just cooks. The idea that this won’t cause massive global instability that will affect all of us is insane. Millions of people arents just going to lie down in the dessert and die.

And it’s not like this isn’t gojng to happen here. About a decade ago a very knowledgeable friend estimated that places like Arizona have less than 50 years before they will have no water. Talk about a humanitarian crisis with relocating all those millions in Arizona.

Mexico City is also having massive water issues but they’ve really been trying to work on creative solutions for catching rain water and so forth. I don’t think it will be enough but maybe it will help a little.

40 years ago they were saying that we would be in a new ice age by now. They taught this in schools and everywhere.

Now imagine all the other lies that are taught in schools.

I was in school 40 years ago and don't recall being told that we would be in an ice age by now. Do you have a link for this or the curriculum from back then at your school? And where was "everywhere"?

Question: Do you think science has progressed in 40 years? Do you think that measurement and computers have helped us understand climate better? If you are upset that you were "lied to" 40 years ago, maybe it's time to get over that??? And it seems like "they" was Newsweek magazine back then.

I don’t think any of you read the story. It says that global warming is making this worse, but it’s mainly because of the government prioritizing irrigation to be able to have sufficient domestic food supplies to withstand sanctions.

It’s not like “omg they don’t have enough water” it’s like “omg they don’t have enough water to grow apples for the whole country in the desert with really inefficient irrigation practices and huge subsidies.

This. It’s a warning to us but I can’t honestly say that I care much. They aren’t our friends.

Not caring about innocent people is pretty sociopathic, but it’s also stupid. What happens there will come here eventually. Everything is connected.

Maybe the people aren’t so innocent.

+1

Also, the Newsweek article was from 1975. 50 years ago, not 40. Half of a century. Same distance as from 1950 to 1900.

I’m 54 and also did not learn of a global cooling crisis in school. In fact, the link you posted actually says that the Newsweek article *did not reflect scientific consensus at that time*.

Teheran is in the mountains (4,000 feet) and not close to the sea.

They should reduce population and not have as many kids to allow them to live in a desert.
