Would your kids know the national anthem?

My kids learn in at school- FCPS

No, but we don't watch many sports. Assume kids who watch sports on TV and large games in person would learn the national anthem without being taught.

If they don’t know the anthem then they are a special kind of stupid.

We are immigrants.

My kids know the national anthem and pledge of allegiance of both our country of origin and US.

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America; and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

"India is my country and all Indians are my brothers and sisters.
I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.
I shall always strive to be worthy of it.
I shall give respect to my parents, teachers and all elders and treat everyone with courtesy.
To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion.
In their well being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness."

No. We don't go to sports events, which is the only place you'd normally hear it. It's not sung at school.

Yes. From swim team meets etc.

My kids recognize our home country’s national anthem and the US one. One kid knows the words. The other does not, beyond the first line.

My kids never did the pledge of allegiance, their school didn’t to it wt all. The national anthem they learned because we had season tickets to the symphony since they were elementary age, so they learned it.

I’m old so we used to say it every morning in school. I knew it stopped at some point but I’m not sure when. Do any of you know when schools, in general stopped it as a practice?

That's weird. At my kids' public school, students recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning. We are in suburban New England.

Why are you on DCUM if you live in New England 😆

Yes. My kids hear it regularly at sporting events, including their swim meets. Their school also does the Pledge each day.

Yes. And we have discussed the fact that the first verse is a question.

Since, I do a lot of DIY enrichment at home, I taught the words to my kids at home. They can also play it on the piano.

DD has been singing it at sporting events since she was 9. First time she said night instead of fight but she got it right after that.

Yes of course. I mean probably from sporting events but also from school.

The pledge of allegiance is in and out depending on lawsuit status. The Pledge is voluntary in the class starting in the 1950s when the courts ruled that students are not required to recite the words or stand.

I don’t remember the pledge of allegiance in high school in the 1980s Massachusetts. Probably because my homeroom teacher never showed up for homeroom and left attendance taking to a student. A bunch of heathens in the class anyway, maybe they gave up because nobody stood.
