720 Reading will raise some eyebrows. Can he superscore reading component from another test?

I've seen so many naturally 1520 equivalent people move up to become CEOs with really successful careers and life, while the 1600 equivalent with MIT-caliber brains work for these CEOs.

With a 1520, go for Michigan ED and be done by Christmas. He gets to go to a world class college for engineering with a much more well-rounded experience for 4 years.

Odd take. Don't settle for a large public where most don't submit an SAT, or if they do, it is substantially below your son's. Only 51% submit an SAT to Michigan with a median of only 1460.

I think Blair is a special case. Clearly MIT is not taking more than 1 kid from many high schools.
It's a huge honor for a typical high school to even get one high performing kid in.

Our Baltimore private has gotten two kids into MIT some years, some years one, some years none, so agree with Blair poster multiple acceptance possible. Last year, two in and now attending at Cal Tech, after not ever sending kids there before.

This is bullshit. A kid with a 800 math and respectable English score definitely could get into MIT, its going to depend on the strength of the rest of the package.

You don't think he has a shot with an 800 in math? I don't think they really care about the verbal since he's STEM?

OP, since you presumably know which Blair kids got into MIT and at least some of who got UMD Honors College invites last year, look them up and see how many were NMSF and US Presidential Scholar candidates. That will give you a sense of how much test scores matter.

Anecdata: the only two kids I know who got UMD Honors College invites last year (one W school, one magnet) were NMSF and US Presidential Scholar Candidates. Obviously a small sample. However, many say HC is overrated and LEP acceptance should be fine with those stats.

But loads of Blair kids apply. RMIB got at least 3 into MIT last year, but not as many kids applied, I'm sure. Still, it's highly competitive within the cohorts. OP, I'd have him retake in the spring. Sounds crazy but 3.9 already puts him at a small disadvantage, given how many have 4.0s. ECs, research, national awards will matter more, however.

Read again, GPA (weighted) is 4.9, not 3.9
