Why would they want to hire someone like you for these positions because they know that will jump ship as soon as you find a job in your field? Your master degree is useless for the suitcase store, customer service, and sales.

Sometimes he takes a day or two to wallow in it but you have to keep trudging forward. It's especially hard now that the holidays are approaching. Try to keep hope alive (easier said than done, I know). Things won't always be this way or at least that's what I keep telling myself! Good luck to you, OP, I hope the right opportunity finds you soon.

Yes, the job market for software developer has been brutal since the end of 2023. I know at least 50 software developers in my circle who are currently unemployed for at least 12 months. These jobs are mainly filled with H1-B people, and American people have zero shot at them, unless it is in the DoD space. There are many contractors such as SAIC and BAH that hire H1-B people and have them work at government on-site such as PBGC, FDIC, and other federal government agencies. They also pay H1-B folks low salaries so US citizens can not compete with that. It is absolutely criminal if you ask me.

It all just feels so grim. But thank you all. It feels like a worse job market than 2020-2021 (covid), during which time I was interviewing.

Happy hunting everyonie.

Don't feel bad- people with masters degrees are getting rejected from McDonald's

Originally, I thought that the H1B issue only affected entry level roles but I think it is hurting mid and senior roles too?. My husband was also laid off as a senior software developer recently. He is so angry because his manager pushed him out citing performance even though he had stellar reviews every year he was to there. To add to the anger is the frustration of this current job market - where you sent out countless resumes only to be ghosted/rejected. I wish that there was a support group for people who are dealing with this situation. The struggle is more than real.

I think she was just illustrating a point. At this point no job is easy to get except maybe teaching?

I looked for my current position for over a year. It is so hard to not get dejected. OP are you crafting your resume and cover letter for each job description? So many companies are using AI screeners for the first round. If you don't have some of the exact phrases from the job description in your resume or cover letter, it will get rejected.

I sympathize with how hard it is. I once got rejected from a temp job!

This! I would run my resume and the job description through Chat GPT and then Jobscan.co. I was getting a fair number of interviews and start a new job next week. It is going to take time in this market!

Teaching is not an easy job to get. Goodness.

OP have you had someone take a critical look at your resumes? You may be overlooking something.

You need specific credentials to teach. In Maryland you need to complete a program that leads to licensure.

People like you piss me off. Always have criticism. And then there's your counterpart who chastises people for not working retail or fast food.
So piss off.
