You have herpes. You need to treat this with valtrex for long term. Please treat it, it is highly contagious. It’s been associated with dementia, and treating it with valtrex lowers that risk.

Why are you assuming that OP doesn't know that? You're just obnoxious. |
| No walnuts. |
+1 |
| I have an outbreak once a year usually after our annual beach trip. My theory is it is the sun plus my extended family is stressful. This year I thought to take lysine and was more diligent about sunscreen on my lips and I did not get an outbreak. I think the lysine worked. Or the sunscreen or both ! |
| cold sores are not the same as genital herpes, they are not herpes simplex 1 |

Ask your doctor for a valacyclovir (valtrex) prescription. I take one dose when I feel my lip tingling and I don't get sores anymore. I typically get them before my cycle, mostly when I'm stressed. Managing my stress and taking my meds if/when I start to feel symptoms has meant that I haven't had an active sore for years.
Lysine may help, and avoiding foods that trigger you might help, but meds WILL help. There's generics available; they're not expensive. Just get the meds. |
| Op, it happens a lot from sexual interactions so think where you have been lately. If you haven't then a pass interaction transferred it to you and your body doesn't do a very good job defending against it. |
How can an adult be so clueless as this? ^ Herpes Simplex 1 or HSV-1 is commonly called "cold sores". Herpes Simplex 2 or HSV-2 is commonly called "genital herpes". Both can be found in either region, though their names are usually correct as to the location of the virus. |

Having cold sores even on a yearly basis is cause for concern.
Most people get HSV-1 cold sores when they are children from close contact in schools or from their parents/grandparents kissing them, sharing glasses, etc. Most people have 1 or maybe 2 outbreaks in a lifetime once they aquire the virus. Having more than that means either you are being reinfected or else your body's immune system needs beefing up. |
Yes, cold sores are hsv-1, herpes simplex. They need to be treated with an antiviral. Highly contagious. |
+1. Just get the meds. |
| Fun fact: chicken pox (varicella-zoster virus) is a type of herpes virus. Shingles too! So stop with the herpes shaming. |
Covid-19 is also genetically related to HIV. Doesn't mean they are the same thing or affect a human the same way. Just like in all "families" there are nuisance members and deadly members and everything in between. You don't want to get any of the Herpes Family viruses if you can help it. They are quite harmful to the nervous system. |
| Get valtrex! I started getting cold sores almost every month right before my period would start. Now at the first sign I take it for two days and no cold sore! |
