Well if they are YOUR kids then he shouldn't be disobeying your wishes since he's not their father.

Sit him down for a serious talk and let know that he'd better stop disobeying your rules about your kids.

Some people don't care about birthdays or Christmas. My mom is like this. I basically buy my kids nothing and then it's birthday or Christmas extravaganza! My mom just gives gifts nonstop all year round.

Mothers often want to think they always know best and that the sky will fall if it's not their way. It won't.

When I complained about stuff like that to my mom (specifically that my husband gave the kids treats instead of fruits for snacks) she wisely said it’s much more important for the kids to have an involved father than for them to have fruit every day. This coming from a woman who never even drank a soda in her life.
